Semiconductor Competence Center Dresden: Precision Metrology for the Semiconductor and High-Tech Industries
Looking back at the 2026 Open House in Dresden

Neuss, 19 October 2026 – Last Thursday and Friday, Mitutoyo welcomed more than 30 professionals from the semiconductor and high-tech industries to its Open House at the Semiconductor Competence Center Dresden. Across three sessions, the focus was on the metrological requirements of modern manufacturing processes: accuracy, repeatability and process reliability.

Expert presentation on digital holography

A technical highlight of the event was the presentation “Digital Holography” by Fulco Verheul from the Mitutoyo Research Center Europe. He presented the current state of the technology and explored the potential of this optical measurement method for semiconductor manufacturing and other high-tech applications.

Live demonstrations and discussions with application experts

The programme combined the presentation with live demonstrations and direct discussions with Mitutoyo’s application experts. Participants experienced the latest measurement technologies in practical use and discussed specific measurement challenges. Accuracy, repeatability and process reliability are decisive factors for yield and quality in semiconductor manufacturing and other high-tech industries, and were therefore central themes throughout the event.

“Dresden continues to provide important impetus for the semiconductor industry. Research and manufacturing have been working side by side here for many years, creating a strong network of suppliers. That is exactly what we at Mitutoyo value,” says Martin Noack, Head of Semiconductor Center of Excellence. “If an innovation is to make it into production tomorrow, precise metrology is essential. With our Competence Center, we want to be involved from the very beginning, which is why Dresden is the perfect location.”

Dresden and Silicon Saxony: a strong high-tech network

Silicon Saxony, Europe’s largest microelectronics cluster, was involved as a key network partner. The close links between industry, research and technology partners are among the key success factors behind Dresden’s position as a centre of innovation. Mitutoyo would like to thank Silicon Saxony for its support and looks forward to continuing the collaboration.

Bringing our Japanese roots to life

The Japanese-inspired catering offered guests a taste of Mitutoyo’s heritage. As a world-leading provider of precision measurement technology, Mitutoyo has always stood for Japanese engineering excellence, the highest standards of quality and a strong commitment to innovation.

Looking ahead: Dresden as Mitutoyo’s hub for semiconductor and high-tech industries

The Open House demonstrated the strong demand for practical exchange and dialogue around precision metrology. The positive response, interest in the presentation on digital holography and in-depth discussions during the live demonstrations all underline one thing: companies developing or manufacturing products for the semiconductor and high-tech industries value direct access to experts and want to experience measurement technology in the environments where it is put into practice.

With the Semiconductor Competence Center, Mitutoyo has established a permanent point of contact in Dresden. Companies, research institutions and partners can visit the location at any time to discuss their own measurement challenges and explore systems using real-world applications. Its proximity to Silicon Saxony and Dresden’s strong network of industry and research organisations makes the location an ideal place to support new technologies with precision metrology right from the start.

Mitutoyo would like to thank all participants, the speaker and its partners for two inspiring days and looks forward to continuing the dialogue, both at future events and during personal visits to the Semiconductor Competence Center.
